Artist Statement
Realism is not my goal but providing enough visual ques and information to the viewer to lead them to recognize the objects in my work is. For me it is about creating the opportunity to ask questions through the combinations of the objects I draw or paint. Guiding the viewer through narratives I’ve created visually relates to my interest in storytelling. Reading books based in fantasy has aided my interest in allowing my audience to come to their own conclusions and explanations.
Though I use traditional materials such as graphite and watercolors, it is my preference to use digital media to create my art. Whether it’s a story driven narrative digitally depicting characters and worlds I have designed or just individual avatars and creatures, each work starts with a central idea, a question. I enjoy the process of slowly expanding and adding details that will add depth and dimension such as texture, knowing as these considered elements come together, the viewer will become more engaged in the story.
