ARTIST STATEMENT
The inspiration for my art is drawn from a love for popular culture such as video games, toys, cartoons, movies, and books. Specifically, I am very fond of both science fiction and the comedy genres. What interests me are the characters whether they are funny or serious. I also like the overall battles between good and evil. I often find myself waiting for the heroic character’s arrival so he can save the day. My dad is my real life hero. He was a firefighter and was in the army for 27 years. He and I share a fondness over popular culture regarding science fiction movies, and tv shows. We also bond over comedy such as the three stooges. He has become part of my art making process. I mostly make digital photographs that draw inspiration from science fiction and comedy. I work with my dad where I portray him as the main protagonist. My photos are presented as a narrative because I like to tell stories. My narratives would incorporate science fiction or humor. My toys are also part of my narratives because they move my narratives forward. |
