Arin-Louis Guyette
Artist Statement

Fantasy and Astronomy are the basis for my work in animation and illustration. I infuse these themes into multiple narratives that co-exist in the worlds that I create.

The characters that are most prominent are reflections of myself, my family, and of the relationships we've engaged in. “As different as the Sun and Moon” was a common saying around my household and I have chosen to divide my family into symbols that echo those celestial bodies. For my story, the Sun spirit is the creator of all fire-based creatures such as dragons, lava golems, phoenixes, and other creatures who thrive during the daytime. Likewise, the spirit of the Moon is the creator of water-based beings and creatures of the night such as sirens, werewolves, or moths. The characters I have created, Lucas and Sachi, are the children of these spirits and thus share traits of both dragon and humanoid.

I create work to tell stories through these characters and find the process therapeutic. Digital media helps me most in cleaning up my rough sketches. Computer programs allow me the freedom of changing colors instantly or playing around with effects that I might not be able to achieve through traditional means.
