Emmanuel Carter, Jr.
Artist Statement

The comics, cartoons, and other illustrated fiction in my youth are the reasons I am interested in the arts today. The unique, exaggerated and sometimes wacky details that gave these drawings so much life and energy and the creative applications of identity are what have inspired me as an artist and continue to do so. Seeing as illustration and character design (and how they utilize identity) are what spurred my interest in the arts, it only makes sense that it be the centerpiece of my artistic career.

The Big Bad, is born of my fears, desires, world views, humor, and anything else attributed to me. I am The Big Bad. I explore the concept of identity vicariously through my characters exploring their own identities. My process in its production is a mixture of traditional and digital. My main passion in this process is the initial pencil drawing; working traditionally provides a natural and organic feel to my illustrations, the digital inking and coloring after is just a form of garnish/polish for me.

Artist Bio
Graduating with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts Degree, Georgia-based illustrator, Emmanuel Carter has dedicated his craft to storytelling and character design. Growing up, Emmanuel was inspired by the cartoons and illustrations he saw in comic magazines and graphic novels. With comic artists and characters as his main motivations, he took to formal education in the arts, studying and developing the foundations which would grant him the skill, knowledge, and experience to efficiently design the figure in his own image. Emmanuel took pleasure in reading about such extravagant characters and their stories and takes pleasure in creating such characters and stories for others.
